Cinema on the Street Returns with the Tom Hank's Cult Classic on Friday, Oct. 28
Featuring a Plot-Inspired Potluck of Sardines, Animal Crackers & Pretzels
300lb Pumpkin Carving Spectacle Prior to Screening
DOWNTOWN SANTA MONICA (September 29, 2016) – What's a Halloween trick-or-treat stash without a proper can of sardines? On Friday, October 28, Cinema on the Street summons a special Halloween weekend screening of the 1989 cult comedy-mystery 'The Burbs' to Third Street Promenade. Rally friends under stars and UFOs, break out the blankets and beach chairs, and enjoy the spectacle of a young Tom Hanks playing a paranoid suburbanite swept up in a plot to expose his eccentric and secretive neighbors as members of a murderous cult. Produced by DTSM, Inc, the screening begins at 8:00pm on the 1300 block of Third Street Promenade and is free to the public.
In tasteful Burbs fashion, DTSM, Inc. will roll out a plot-inspired potluck of pretzels, animal crackers, and – yes – cans of sardines. Each snack makes a cameo in the film, and Cinema-goers can sample all three for free (hopefully not in one bite). In the spirit of Halloween, candy will be gifted as well.
Prior to Tom Hanks taking on suburbia's strangest cul-de-sac, the street-walkers of Third Street Promenade will be treated to a live jumbo pumpkin carving beginning at 5:00pm. Show up early to watch master sculptor Nick Petronzio whittle away at a mammoth 300lb pumpkin while the new moon creeps over Santa Monica. The finished work will glow on the Promenade for the remainder of the weekend, its sinister glory on full display.
