It's a Win-Win-Win! Celebrate 4th of July weekend with a fabulous evening of theatre, a lovely post-show wine-and-nibbles reception with the cast and support the Playhouse Benefit Campaign! Inspired by real events, Ink & Paint follows five women artists at Walt Disney Studios in the 1930s and beyond, whose ranks included first- and second-generation immigrants, a single mother and architect, a record-breaking pilot, a concept artist, and Disney's first credited woman animator. They tell the true story of the company's first all-women story unit in a madcap mashup of mid-century American history, the golden age of hand-drawn animation, and the wild, wisecracking women who fought tooth, nail, and paintbrush for their place in it. A short version of Ink & Paint premiered Off-Broadway as part of Emerging Artist Theatre's 2023 New Work Series, which was a Time Out New York Critics' Pick. The full-length musical was a semi-finalist for the 2023 Live & In Color Musical Incubator and Wild Imaginings' 2024 Epiphanies Festival. The piece will also be featured in the 2024 SheLA Festival. Book, music & lyrics by award-winning writer/composer/creative producer Danielle Moore. Dramaturg Emma Bilderback. Produced by GLG, the first (and only) U.S.-based organization dedicated to developing and producing musical theater written and composed by women and nonbinary artists, with the goal of closing the gender gap in musical authorship. Santa Monica Playhouse programs are supported in part by generous grants from the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Arts Commission, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, the Ahmanson Foundation, the Rotary Club Foundation, and Playhouse PALS.
