For more than 30 years, Downtown Santa Monica has been at the forefront of the local food movement. It all started in 1981, with the establishment of a weekly farmers’ market where area growers could sell fresh produce directly to consumers.
Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Arizona Avenue between Second and Fourth streets.
Now a twice-weekly event covering four city blocks, the Downtown Santa Monica Farmers’ Market is acclaimed as the place to go for the highest quality and largest selection of locally grown fruits and vegetables in Southern California.
More than 100 times each year, home cooks and award-winning chefs gather to sample and purchase exotic citrus fruits, eye-popping greens, freshly picked berries and more varieties of tomatoes, tubers, squash and mushrooms than you probably knew existed. Sixty percent of the market’s vendors operate certified organic farms.
This friendly, family-oriented community gathering also features artisan cheeses, natural meats, baked goods, fresh seafood, and other products and events for food lovers.
The vibrant open-air shopping experience, the unsurpassed selection and the opportunity to interact with food producers are just a few of the reasons why close to a million shoppers a year visit the Downtown Santa Monica Farmers’ Market — and rarely leave with an empty stomach!
People sure do love those Farmers' Market Instagram pics #SMFMS and you might be able to take a selfie with a celebrity chef. Most farmers prefer cash over credit or debit cards.
