Ice Skating Lessons

 

Ice at Santa Monica is thrilled to have The Randy Gardner School of Skating providing lessons with experienced professionals for skaters of all skill levels. Designed and presented by U.S. and World Pair Champion Randy Gardner, the school of skating offers an on-ice program for the recreational skater to the more seasoned skater, as well as those who would like to have private lessons in a pleasant and easy atmosphere.

By enrolling in classes or private lessons you agree to the terms and conditions set forth in the Waiver and Release Agreement included here. Please download the form and complete it before arriving at the rink. 

 

We will always try to accommodate your choice of coach, however, there may be unforeseen changes in the schedule where your coach becomes unavailable for your prescribed time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Highly motivated figure skating professional with extensive competitive and professional experience on ice and synthetic ice in individuals, pairs and hockey. Former competitive member of the 1990 United States World Figure Skating Team. Gold Medalist in pairs, freestyle, ice dancing and figures. Stunt double for the film "The Cutting Edge."

Lisa has been part of Ice at Santa Monica coaching staff since its inception. She learned to skate on her backyard frozen pond at the age of 3. A seasoned coach for over two decades, Lisa has extensive experience working with all ages and abilities, including English language learners and those with special needs. A platinum level competitor, highlights include: National Showcase Master Junior Silver Medallist; 3-time ISI World Champion and 4-time Southwest competitor. Still actively training and competing, she has worked under the tutelage of founder Randy Gardner for over a decade.

Jennifer Don headshot
Jennifer Don

Jennifer Don is a National, International, and World Junior Medalist in singles and pairs. Career highlights include World Junior Bronze medalist in pairs, U.S. National Collegiate Champion in singles; and National Champion of Taiwan in singles. She holds a place in skating trivia for being the first woman to ever win a competition under the current IJS points judging system. Jennifer continues to performs in shows all over the world, often on plastic/synthetic ice. Jennifer is a triple gold medalist and has coached for 15 years and CER certified. She has taught all levels of skating, from beginners to competitive athletes at the junior national level. Jennifer has a bachelor's of arts from UCLA and has held an elected position as a member of the Athlete Advisory Committee for U.S. Figure Skating.

Jackie fell in love with figure skating at the age of 3 and has always been extremely passionate about the sport. Jackie has over 20 years of skating experience as a former USFS and ISI competitive skater, and has skated in a variety of shows. Jackie is a trained dancer and has extensive knowledge of sports conditioning, on and off-ice, and is certified in physical fitness. She offers power-stoking instruction specifically designed to enhance strength and endurance both for hockey and figure skaters. Her love of the sport and creative approach allows her to provide personalized instruction with an emphasis on beginner, intermediate and advanced skaters, ranging in age from toddlers to adults. In addition, Jackie is a certified gold-level judge with ISI, and a member of USFS, PSA and ISI.

Ethan Burgess is 6-time National Medalist and a 2-time National Champion in pairs figure skating. He was the lead skating double in the Hollywood movie "Blades of Glory", and the runner up finisher on the ABC television show "Skating with the Stars" with celebrity partner Bethenny Frankel. Over the past 15 years, Ethan has been coaching a wide variety of skaters and for the last 10 years, he has been a strength and conditioning coach training thousands of clients from non-athletes all the way up to Olympic medalists.   Combining his passion for figure skating and for physical development, Ethan started the online fitness coaching company, Olio.Fit. and is excited to share his years of experience to help improve your skating and fitness with fun, exciting lessons and online workouts tailored to meet your goals and unique physical needs.

Randy Gardner School of Skating is offering group skating classes for all levels of skaters.

 

For the beginner, learn forward and backward skating, two-foot glides, curves, balance over the skates for safe and comfortable progression across the ice and basic coordination to give the feel of accomplishment and freedom while skating. 

 

For the slightly more advanced recreational skater, learn how to go faster on the ice, turn from front to back with ease, basic stops, edges, two-foot or one-foot turns and basic fundamentals for a safe and enjoyable time on the ice.

Select the Sunday you want and coaches will place you in the appropriate class based on your skill level.
