The title speaks for itself - a fun and exciting workshop not just for actors but for anyone who would like to be brave, moving and hilarious! This fun and exciting class will guide you to developing an idea or story for the stage, so that the writing is performative- urgent, active and powerful, while mining the humor and absurdity. Learn how to get out of your head and not sound 'writerly.' You'll get to write, improvise, do storytelling and experience what happens to your creative process when you're seen and heard. Want to develop a Solo-Show, write a Play, do Storytelling or Alt Comedy, or just have a good time finding out how it's done? Here's a nurturing, playful way to start performing your words in the spotlight. All levels welcome - no writing or performance experience necessary- just the willingness to have fun and take a little leap. Terrie Silverman is a Writer/Performer, Director, Dramaturg and founder of Creative Rites Workshops/Coaching for Writing, Performance & Creative Expression. She's been presented at theaters, art festivals and cultural institutions. Career highlights include dying onstage with Ian McKellen and '4 Women for Women' with Laraine Newman & Julia Sweeney. Ms Silverman works with individuals, groups and organizations to help people release the inner-critic, access their authentic voice and uncover their extraordinary stories. Award-winning Solo-Shows that she has directed and helped develop have toured internationally and Off-Broadway. Her students have been featured on This American Life, The Moth, Unfictional, Off-Ramp, in addition to writing critically acclaimed memoirs. Join Terrie for this great free workshop – part of the BFF Free Festival of Theatre (Oct 15 – Nov 12, offering over 40 plays, workshops and family-oriented events thanks to generous grants from the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Arts Commission, Pearl and Bill Bordy, the Cotkin Family and Playhouse PALS.
