Dining Events: Downtown Santa Monica Restaurants Face-Off in the First Annual Peach-Off

Downtown Santa Monica
Chefs of Downtown Santa Monica have been issued a challenge that made mouths water: Which local restaurant could create the best possible dish showcasing July's most delicious fruit? Each restaurant was asked to create these dishes using the key seasonal ingredient - peaches.
Critically-acclaimed restaurants Locanda del Lago, Fraiche, and The Lobster participated in this friendly competition, which challenged their use of ingredients paired with their knowledge of fine cuisine to produce three new items on their menu through the month of July. The guest judges were responsible for choosing a winner from each category: best appetizer/cocktail, best entree, and best dessert.

Cocktail: "Summer in Rio"
White peaches flambeed with cognac, shaken with Leblon Brazillian Cachaca, St. Germain Elderflower liquor and fresh Meyer lemon.
Entree: "Branzino Cileno al Cartoccio" - *WINNER OF BEST ENTREE*
Chilean Sea Bass with peaches, lemon verbena leaves and olive oil.
Dessert: "Pesche Dolci"
A soft dessert bread filled with peach cream - plated to look like an actual peach.

Appetizer: "Peche Poche" - *WINNER OF BEST APPETIZER*
Poached peach with endive, wild arugula, candied walnuts, blue cheese and a red wine vinaigrette.

Chicken, watercress, celery, iceberg lettuce, pinenuts, and fresh peaches topped champagne vinaigrette.
